| painterTaliah Lempert. Over her 18 years of painting, she has spent the
last seven focusing on images of bicycles - a lot of bicycles. "I want to make art that examines my surroundings," she says. Thatıs pretty accurate, considering her third floor loft, which doubles as her work and living space, is shared by six friends and nearly 30 bicycles. She creates portraits of an amazing array of bicycles and tandem bicycles, from a variety of perspectives. Her biggest paintings are over 72 by 60 inches, and some have sold for more than $3,000. A grad of the Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Lempert earned her masters at the New York Academy of Art. Her boyfriend, Bike Cult author David Perry, owns Bike Works NYC, a Manhattan bike shop specializing in transportation and racing machines. Lempert finds the shop a constant source of new material. A cyclist herself, she competes at Kissena Velodrome, riding a track bike in the Wednesday night track races. How does one become known as "the bicycle painting lady"?
