Alex's Bike

February 12, 2014 - 8:38am

Doing something new with this painting.
I had a false start and moved to a new canvas.

the  false start                                the new canvas

I was out of the studio, not  painting for a week or so.
When I came back to the project I picked up with  the false start
to warm up before the final painting.

now the false start has come together so well
I'll try to bring them both to a finish.

James LaRoche

February 5, 2014 - 11:07am

While digitizing my parents slide collection we came across this one of the artist, James LaRoche, in front of his painting.

I grew up with that piece and hadn't realized it was the first artwork my parents bought.
They were so excited they had the artist over for dinner to celebrate.
I was moved that after 50+ years they remembered his name and it was still an important event for them.

Every now and then people buy work their first work from me and they’re so excited, it means a lot to them,  and to me.
Those connections with people who get my work are some of the great things about being a professional artist.
I feel a bond with Mr. LaRoche and hope that 50 years from now a photo of me with someones first painting will show up
and the cycle will be repeated

Things are good, I just got back from visiting my folks I’m still reeling in a stupor of nostalgia.
My dad is an excellent photographer and had a camera with him most of the time For the last 50+ years.
We got batch slide scanner And we spent the last week getting started.

Along with pictures of friends and family he shot tons of landscapes and still lives,
a lot of travel pictures and places they were living
Here’s a small sample including pictures of my mom and dad in 1962,
me mid cartwheel in front of Lincoln Center 1976
