I love Matisse’s monotypes—those velvety black ink fields he drew straight through to make airy white lines. His are smooth and effortless. I’ve started what I hope will become a series, using the leftover ink from my lithographs. Rolling it out, drawing into it, and pulling a print—part experiment, part homage.
