I first painted Chad’s bike in 2001, when he was riding it for everything — messenger work, alleycats, and getting around NYC and Minneapolis. It’s remained one of my favorites.

These blind drawings are my version of a classic drawing exercise: keeping eyes on the subject and not looking at the paper, focusing on connection. I start with a Sharpie and then build the image with watercolor, letting the drawing stay loose, direct, and a little unexpected. This is on Vintage Arches Cover.
