Wheat Fields

December 22, 2017 - 3:58pm

Went back to the Met today and saw the Hockney show
and the Michelangelo.
How cool to view all this art IRL
that I've been seeing in reproduction forever!

I also walked by Wheatfields by Van Ruisdael
and mistook it for the other one, Grainfields, which I made a copy of
when I was 25. I ended up trading the copy to my orthodontist for $ off braces.
She told me the work on my teeth would cost $3000 and "do you like art?"
just popped out of my mouth!

Portraits

December 15, 2017 - 7:02am

I started watching this last night.
Surprisingly, I thought I knew them all,
there are  Lucien Freud paintings I hadn't seen.

I am reminded how and why I love his work.
and what I love about paint and painting.

Telling Tales

December 14, 2017 - 1:27pm

I'm a long time Paula Rego fan
Last night I watched this documentary
one thing that stuck with me, that I can relate to
that may be the seed of my work as well
is the idea in art when you make pictures that are very personal, very specific
they end up being universal ideas or themes
somehow the more personal, the more specific the more universal.
that, is the strength.

It's a Wrap!

December 11, 2017 - 7:28am

Had a great time at the Bust Craftacular this weekend!
It was at the Brooklyn Expo Center that's conveniently close to the studio.
A good end to my market season.
Looking forward to lots of painting time this winter
and hitting the streets again next year!
